Wreck of the Kathryn
The 140 ft steel hulled ex-minesweeper was deliberately sunk by an Ocho Rios dive operator in 1991. It sits upright, with a slight list to starboard, in the middle of a large sandy area, which is covered by manatee grass and other algae at a depth of 50 ft ( 15 m ). The superstructure is completely intact and allows entry to its interior, which is spacious enough to move around. Inside, due to the darkness, black coral has already started to grow. The Kathryn wreck
is home to a wide variety of fish like squirrel fish,
bluehead wrasse, hamlets, grunts and snappers.
